Sanwo-Olu Inaugurates New Agege Council Chairman, Charges Him on Community-Focused Governance
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday formally inaugurated Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government, tasking him with driving people-oriented projects and ensuring his administration reflects the broader development vision of the state.
The ceremony, held at Lagos House in Ikeja, also witnessed the swearing-in of Toyin Adejimiwa as a Permanent Secretary, marking another milestone in the state’s ongoing public service reforms.
Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, who had previously overseen the council in an acting capacity, was confirmed and officially installed as chairman following the completion of due process.
He is the son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasised the strategic importance of local governments, noting that they serve as the closest point of contact between government and the people. He stressed that leadership at the grassroots level must be proactive, accountable and sensitive to the daily needs of residents.
The governor advised the new council chairman to embrace unity in governance, shun actions capable of creating divisions and concentrate on policies and projects that deliver tangible benefits to the people of Agege.
According to him, effective leadership in Lagos State is measured by discipline, service delivery and visible impact.
Sanwo-Olu also paid tribute to retired permanent secretaries in attendance, commending their years of dedication and describing them as role models whose contributions have strengthened the state’s civil service.
He congratulated both Adejimiwa and Obasa, expressing optimism that they would live up to expectations and play key roles in advancing Lagos State’s development goals.
