President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 70th birthday, describing him as a stabilising voice, bridge-builder and moral compass for the nation.

Tinubu, in a statement issued on Monday, said the Sultan had distinguished himself through decades of service, wisdom and commitment to peace, describing his leadership as vital to national unity and peaceful coexistence.

The President said the Sultan had embodied the traditions of the Sokoto Caliphate through scholarship, humility and an unwavering commitment to peace during his nearly two decades on the throne.

He said, “You have been a stabilising voice in times of turbulence, a bridge-builder across faiths and communities, and a moral compass not only for our Muslim ummah, but for our entire nation.”

Tinubu described the Sultan as a leader who speaks truth with compassion, counsels patience without weakness and promotes unity without compromising his convictions.

According to the President, the Sultanate under Abubakar’s leadership has continued to promote education, interfaith dialogue and humanitarian service, while his advocacy for peaceful coexistence, the girl-child and the dignity of Nigerians reflects shared national values.

Tinubu also commended the Sultan’s contributions to nation-building, particularly his support for security, community development and the spiritual wellbeing of Nigerians.

“As President, I deeply value your partnership in nation-building. Your security support, community development, and the spiritual well-being of our people strengthen the fabric of our republic. Nigeria needs more of the wisdom you so generously offer,” he said.

The President said the Sultan’s palace in Sokoto had become a platform for dialogue and described his counsel as influential across the country, particularly during periods of grief, division and uncertainty.

Tinubu, on behalf of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the government and people of Nigeria, prayed for the Sultan to be granted many more years in good health, sound mind and strength.

He also prayed that the Sultan’s reign would continue to be a source of blessing, guidance and honour to the Sokoto Caliphate and Nigeria.

“Your Eminence, congratulations once again. May this new decade of your life be your most rewarding yet,” Tinubu said.
