Europa League: Go Ahead Eagles Stun Aston Villa As Rangers Crumble Against Brann

It was a shocking night in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday as Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles claimed a stunning 2–1 victory over Aston Villa, while Rangers suffered a heavy 3–0 defeat to Norwegian outfit Brann in Danny Röhl’s first game in charge.

Aston Villa looked set for a routine win after taking an early lead through Evann Guessand, but the hosts hit back with goals from Mathis Suray and Mats Deijl, turning the tie on its head.

Villa wasted numerous chances to equalise, with Emiliano Buendía missing a late penalty that could have salvaged a point.

Unai Emery’s side dominated possession but paid dearly for defensive errors and poor finishing, while the defeat stands as one of the biggest nights in Go Ahead Eagles’ history. The result puts Villa’s qualification hopes under pressure heading into the next round of fixtures.

In Norway, Rangers endured a dismal evening as Brann outclassed them with a convincing 3–0 victory.

Goals in the 40th, 55th, and 79th minutes sealed the defeat, leaving the Scottish side bottom of their group with no points from three matches.

The result marked a disappointing start for new manager Danny Röhl, whose side failed to show any attacking rhythm or defensive stability.

Rangers captain, James Tavernier branded the display “disgraceful” and the worst he’s seen at the club.

The double setback leaves both Aston Villa and Rangers facing uphill battles in their Europa League campaigns, with both clubs now under growing pressure to deliver results in their upcoming fixtures.
