Ambazonian Leaders Beg Tinubu for Support in Resolving Anglophone Crisis

Leaders of the English-speaking regions of Cameroon, under the Dynamic Alliance to Implement the Peaceful Permanent Solution, have appealed to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to play a decisive role in resolving the long-running Anglophone crisis.
In a letter dated September 9, 2025, the group urged Nigeria to support either the recognition of the Republic of Ambazonia or the conduct of an exclusive referendum for the indigenous peoples of Cameroon’s Northwest and Southwest regions.
The alliance argues that adopting the Peaceful Permanent Solution strategy would not only bring lasting peace and stability to the Gulf of Guinea subregion but also elevate Nigeria’s global standing.
They believe Nigeria’s support could lead to the country’s admission to the UN Security Council’s expanded membership and potentially position President Tinubu as a leading candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The conflict stems from the 1961 UN-sponsored plebiscite that determined the fate of Southern Cameroons, with the region voting to join French Cameroon.
The Ambazonians claim they were annexed despite voting for reunification, leading to ongoing grievances and calls for independence or a return to a federal system.
The conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths and mass displacement, with hundreds of thousands affected.
