Akume Debunks Sack Rumours, Says Tinubu Fully Supports Him
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has categorically dismissed widespread rumours suggesting his removal from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday through his Director of Press and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, Akume described the reports as “fake, baseless, and a fabrication by mischief makers bent on misleading the public.”
“The information is entirely false, misleading, and lacks any basis in fact, as Mr President has no any intention of doing so,” the statement read in part. It further stressed that President Tinubu continues to repose “unwavering confidence” in Akume’s ability to drive and coordinate the policies and programmes of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akume expressed concern over the danger posed by misinformation, especially when circulated through media and digital platforms. He urged the public to exercise caution, verify claims, and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated rumours that could “erode trust in public institutions.”
The statement also aligned with a recent clarification by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, who reaffirmed Akume’s position in government and dismissed the removal speculation.
“Therefore, Senator Dr. George Akume CON, remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement concluded, calling on Nigerians to focus on national progress rather than baseless distractions.
