Nigeria, Denmark Strengthen Ties with Focus on Economic Growth

President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Queen Mary Elizabeth of Denmark to the State House in Abuja, emphasizing the potential for deeper bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The visit, which marks the Queen’s first to Nigeria, was co-hosted by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

During the meeting, Tinubu highlighted the opportunities for investment and education that could transform the challenges posed by farmer-herder conflicts into development opportunities.

He stressed the need for strategic investments to manage Nigeria’s projected population growth, expected to reach 400 million by 2050.

The President welcomed Danish investments aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda, commending companies like A.P. Moller–Maersk and Grundfos for their contributions to Nigeria’s agricultural and maritime infrastructure.

He also praised Denmark’s support for internally displaced persons in conflict-affected regions.

The First Lady emphasized the importance of educational reform, particularly in traditional Islamic schooling, suggesting that formal recognition of knowledge offered by these schools could enhance the country’s educational structure.

Queen Mary expressed gratitude for the reception and solidarity with Nigeria over the humanitarian crisis in the Northeast. She highlighted her mission to strengthen relations, explore investment opportunities, and promote cultural and educational exchanges.

The visit underscores the growing cooperation between Nigeria and Denmark, with potential benefits for both nations in areas such as agriculture, education, and economic development.
