Court Grants 55-Year-Old Woman Bail Over Alleged Stolen Property

The Chief Magistrate Court No. 1 in Gombe has granted bail to a 55-year-old woman, Antine Amadu, who is facing trial fpr allegedly receiving stolen property.

Chief Magistrate Musa-Saleh Kilawa granted Amadu bail on Monday after she was arraigned before the court in connection with the alleged receipt of a gallon of Turkey oil valued at N60,000.

Amadu, a resident of Dawaki Quarters in Gombe, was accused of dishonestly receiving the item from one Ibrahim Hassan of Aniya Quarters at about 1am on August 27, 2026.

The prosecution alleged that the Turkey oil had been stolen from Haruna Magaji of Ajiya Quarters, Gombe.

State counsel, Hafsat Aliyu, told the court that the alleged offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code Law.

Following the defendant’s plea, the court considered her bail application and granted her bail.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until September 14, 2026, for hearing.

The matter is expected to proceed with the presentation of evidence and further arguments from the prosecution and defence when it resumes.

Amadu remains an accused person, and the allegation against her is yet to be established by the court.
