The North-Central chapter of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Sociocultural Association has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and relevant authorities to intervene in the continued detention of its national leader, Abdullahi Bello Bodejo.

The group also called on National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress and security agencies to review the circumstances surrounding Bodejo’s detention.

North-Central Chairman of the association, Idris Bebeji, made the appeal on Wednesday at a press conference in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Bebeji said Bodejo’s continued detention had caused concern among his family, associates, supporters and members of the pastoralist community, describing him as an advocate for the welfare and peaceful coexistence of Fulani pastoralists.

He said the association recognised the constitutional duties of security and law enforcement agencies and was not seeking to interfere with any legitimate investigation.

According to Bebeji, Bodejo was initially arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Jalingo, Taraba State, on the day he declared his intention to contest the Taraba Central senatorial seat.

He said Bodejo was subsequently handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he spent almost four months in custody before reportedly meeting the conditions for his release.

Bebeji said Bodejo was released but later rearrested by DSS operatives on August 28, 2026.

While acknowledging that security agencies might have information unavailable to the association, he urged the authorities to review the legal basis for Bodejo’s continued detention.

He said if there were grounds for further investigation or prosecution, the process should be conducted in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws.

Bebeji further appealed for Bodejo’s release if there was no longer a lawful reason to keep him in custody.

He described the detained leader as an APC member and supporter of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket during the 2023 general elections.

The association’s chairman also commended the Tinubu administration for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and inclusion of pastoralist communities, particularly the creation of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.

He urged the President, the NSA, Attorney-General, APC leadership and DSS to ensure that Bodejo’s case was resolved fairly and through due process.

Bebeji also called on members of Miyetti Allah and the wider Fulani pastoralist community to remain calm and law-abiding while the matter is addressed through constitutional and dialogue-based processes.

He stressed that the appeal was for justice, fairness and due process and should not be interpreted as a challenge to constituted authority.
