Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni has marked a historic milestone after her government became the longest-serving administration in the history of the Italian Republic.

Her coalition reached 1,413 days in office, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days set by Silvio Berlusconi’s second government between 2001 and 2005.

In a post on X, Meloni described the achievement as a moment of gratitude and responsibility. She said political stability is not a record to boast about, but a necessary condition that allows a country to plan, make decisions, keep commitments and earn respect.

Meloni said her government has worked to raise employment, reduce unemployment, support families and businesses, strengthen security and improve Italy’s standing on the international stage. She acknowledged that while progress has been made, much work still remains.

She attributed the longevity of the administration to the unity of her centre-right coalition rather than the efforts of any single person. Meloni noted that the three longest-serving governments in Italy’s republican history have all been centre-right administrations.

The Prime Minister credited Italian voters who gave the coalition their trust in 2022. She said that trust has never been taken for granted and that the government will return to the people next year with its record and plans for the future.
