A major attack in Katsina State was successfully thwarted through a joint operation between operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilantes, resulting in the death of a prominent bandit kingpin and over 60 of his gang members.

Intelligence sources revealed that the security personnel acted on early-warning information regarding a planned large-scale assault on rural communities within the state. The joint forces ambushed the bandits while they were en route to execute the attack, sparking an intense gun battle.

During the heavy exchange of fire, the notorious criminal leader who had been linked to multiple high-profile kidnappings, cattle rustling, and attacks on villages across the North-West—was neutralized alongside dozens of his armed followers. Operatives also recovered a substantial stockpile of weapons, motorcycles, and communication devices used by the gang. Security forces have since intensified patrol and clearance operations across the surrounding forests to prevent reprisal attacks and track down any remaining fleeing criminal elements.
