The National Association of Nigerian Students has condemned the abduction of students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, in Ogun State.

The student body described the incident as another troubling sign of rising insecurity around tertiary institutions.

In a statement by its President, Akinteye Babatunde, NANS called on the Federal Government, the Ogun State Government, and security agencies to ensure the safe and immediate rescue of the abducted students. The association also urged authorities to strengthen security around campuses nationwide.

The students were kidnapped following an attack on a private hostel along Paraga Road, Ipara, on Wednesday night. The incident came just days after a robbery at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, where one student was killed and several others injured.

NANS said the back-to-back attacks have thrown students across Ogun State into fear. The association insisted that no student should have to risk their life while pursuing education and that campus security must not be compromised.

Beyond the rescue, NANS called for lasting measures to prevent future attacks. It urged governments to invest in affordable on-campus hostels to reduce students’ exposure to risks associated with living in remote private accommodation. The association pledged to keep engaging authorities until the students regain their freedom.
