Goodluck Jonathan, High-Profile Politicians Names Missing as INEC Releases 2027 Candidates List

The Independent National Electoral Commission has published its official list of candidates for the 2027 general elections, omitting several prominent politicians despite party appeal and review processes.

Among the high-profile omissions is former President Goodluck Jonathan, who had been submitted to the commission as the presidential candidate for a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Several other notable figures were also excluded from party tickets across the states, including Senator Ned Nwoko, whose Delta North APC ticket was instead secured by former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. In Gombe State, former Governor Danjuma Goje lost his APC senatorial ticket to retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ahmed.

The publication follows a review process by the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee, which overturned primary results in nine states and reinstated six sitting senators. However, many political figures failed to secure placement on the final submission to the electoral body, including Bauchi South Senator Shehu Buba, who defected to run for governor under another party, and Representative Mansur Soro, who opted not to contest.
