Cross River NDC Pass No-confidence Vote on Chairman Over Alleged Financial, Administrative Infractions

The Cross River State Executive Council of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has passed a vote of no confidence on its State Chairman, Mr. Goddie Akpama, over allegations of financial misconduct and institutional breaches.

In a joint communiqué signed by key executive members, including the Deputy State Chairman, Sir Mark Ujor, and State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Cletus Albert Amawu, the party officials leveled multiple accusations against the chairman. Central to the crisis is the allegation that Akpama continued to receive salaries from the Cross River State Government months after claiming he had formally resigned his government appointment, an action the council flagged as a significant conflict of interest.

Beyond the payroll controversy, the aggrieved executives accused Akpama of running a non-transparent administration that heavily sidelined other elected officers. He stands accused of unilaterally altering the State Executive Council list following the state congress without due stakeholder consultation, failing to publish harmonized local government and ward structures, and managing party resources and delegate funds without accountability.

The executives further alleged that the chairman engaged in anti-party activities and overstepped his constitutional authority by unilaterally establishing screening committees.

Seeking immediate intervention, the state council has formally petitioned the NDC National Working Committee to investigate the infractions and restore the party’s original leadership structure in Cross River.
