FEPPPAN Tasks New NSIWC Chief on Pensioners’ Welfare

The Federal Parastatals and Private Sector Pensioners Association of Nigeria (FEPPPAN) has called on the newly appointed leadership of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) to place the welfare of pensioners at the forefront of its agenda.

In a statement jointly signed by its President-General, Elder Benjamin Amakko, and General Secretary, Franklin Erinle, the association described the appointment as a significant responsibility that comes at a crucial period in the nation’s economic journey.

FEPPPAN urged the new commission boss to focus on issues affecting retirees, stressing the importance of prompt pension payments, improved welfare packages, and stronger social protection measures for senior citizens across the country.

The association noted that regular pension payments remain essential to the wellbeing of retirees, many of whom rely on the funds to meet daily needs, maintain their health, and preserve their dignity after years of service to the nation.

It also appealed for urgent action to settle outstanding pension obligations and accrued benefits owed to retirees, particularly those who have endured prolonged delays in receiving their entitlements.

According to the association, addressing these lingering liabilities would provide much-needed relief to pensioners who continue to face economic hardship and uncertainty.

FEPPPAN expressed confidence in the capacity of the new NSIWC leadership to introduce reforms that would strengthen the nation’s pension system and improve the living conditions of retired workers.

The group further emphasised that economic policies and fiscal decisions should translate into tangible benefits for vulnerable citizens, particularly pensioners who have contributed significantly to national development during their years in active service.

It also appealed to the Federal Government to provide adequate financial and institutional support to relevant agencies responsible for pension administration, noting that such backing is necessary for them to effectively discharge their responsibilities.

The association maintained that strengthening pension institutions and ensuring timely release of funds would help address outstanding obligations, enhance service delivery, and improve the overall welfare of retirees nationwide.
