NDLEA Arrests Two Grandfathers for Distributing Illicit Drugs to Secondary School Students

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two elderly men both grandfathers for their alleged involvement in trafficking and selling illicit drugs to secondary school students and vulnerable youths.

The separate arrests were carried out by tactical teams during a series of coordinated, intelligence-led raids aimed at dismantling local distribution networks targeting educational institutions. According to an official statement by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the suspects had been utilizing their age and low-profile residential setups as a cover to evade law enforcement scrutiny while supplying psychoactive substances to minors.

In the first operation, NDLEA operatives intercepted an 83-year-old suspect following reports of suspicious transactions around a major school corridor. A search of his premises led to the recovery of several retail sachets of skunk, a highly potent strain of cannabis, already packaged for quick sale.

The suspect reportedly claimed that economic hardship drove him into the trade.

Similarly, a second raid targeting a 78-year-old suspect yielded a significant quantity of identical substances intended for local distribution. Preliminary investigations revealed that the elderly dealers operated a retail network that actively supplied local youths, including secondary school pupils within the vicinity.

NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers for the successful interceptions.

He re-emphasized the agency’s unyielding commitment to both supply reduction and intensive public sensitization, declaring that the law enforcement body will continue to aggressively target anyone—regardless of age or social standing who seeks to compromise the health and safety of the younger generation.
