Kano Police Arrest Suspected Drug Dealer, Recover 879 Parcels of Cannabis
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 879 parcels of substances believed to be Cannabis Sativa during a raid in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Umaru, popularly known as Jalo, was apprehended on May 13, 2026, while allegedly unloading 18 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis into his home in Yan Shado village.
The development was disclosed in a statement released on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa. He explained that officers attached to the Dawakin Tofa Police Division carried out the operation following credible intelligence from members of the community.
Police authorities said the raid formed part of ongoing intelligence-driven and community policing efforts targeted at dismantling criminal and drug trafficking networks across the state.
A search conducted at the suspect’s residence reportedly led to the discovery of the 18 sacks, which contained a total of 879 parcels of the suspected illicit substance.
The command noted that the operation was in line with directives issued by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, who had instructed operational units to intensify efforts against drug-related crimes based on intelligence reports and public complaints.
The police further described illicit drug activities as one of the major contributors to violent crimes, thuggery, and social unrest within the state.
Bakori reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance approach toward drug trafficking and abuse, stressing that those involved would face the full weight of the law.
Authorities also revealed that investigations are ongoing to identify the suspect’s suppliers, associates, and wider distribution network. The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
The command praised residents who supplied useful information that aided the arrest and encouraged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence on criminal activities in their communities.
Meanwhile, the police recently carried out a similar operation in Ado Ekiti, where two suspected drug dealers were arrested and several illicit substances and items were recovered.
