Police Spokesperson’s Mother Buried in Akwa Ibom
The remains of Madam Nkoyo Ikot, mother of the Akwa Ibom State police spokesperson, Timfon John, were laid to rest on Saturday in Esit Eket Local Government Area of the state.
Madam Ikot, who died at the age of 61, was honoured by family members, community leaders and government officials, who described her as a devoted mother and respected figure known for her humility and service.
The funeral service was held at Holy Cross Lutheran Primary School in Uquo and officiated by ministers of the Christian Fellowship Evangelical Church of Nigeria, Uquo Zone.
Among dignitaries present was the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, who said the ceremony underscored the shared humanity beyond official roles.
“Today, I stood not just as a Commissioner of Police, but as a fellow human sharing in the pain of loss,” Azare said, offering prayers for the repose of the deceased and strength for the bereaved family.
Funeral activities began on Thursday with the opening of the mourning house and a gospel night at Ebighi Assang, followed by a friends’ night at the deceased’s residence on Friday.
In a condolence message, the Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Area, Uduak Ikot, described death as inevitable and urged residents to live lives of purpose and positive impact.
She said the deceased’s virtues were reflected in her children, noting that she raised responsible and respected individuals.
In a personal tribute, Timfon John described her late mother as her “first home” and “greatest teacher,” saying her influence would remain evident in her life and career.
Family members and associates said Madam Ikot lived a life defined by discipline, compassion and commitment to her community.
