Gunmen Kill Edo Businessman Hours Before Child’s Dedication
The community of Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Area has been plunged into mourning following the tragic murder of a prominent businessman, Justice Abu Oshioke, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen just hours before his child’s dedication ceremony.
Oshioke, the 30-year-old Chief Executive Officer of the popular fast-food outlet Principle Takeout, was reportedly attacked on Saturday night, May 2, 2026. The incident occurred around 9:55 p.m. in the Idumebo area while he was returning home. Sources suggest that Oshioke had stepped out to pick up items or finalize orders for the following day’s celebration when he was accosted by individuals suspected to be kidnappers.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants attempted to forcibly abduct the businessman and drag him into a nearby bush. Oshioke reportedly resisted the abduction, leading the gunmen to open fire on him. Neighbors and bystanders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but he was tragically confirmed dead upon arrival, turning what should have been a day of joy and thanksgiving for his newborn child into a scene of immense grief.
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident and expressed deep sadness over the loss. The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Eno Ikoedem, stated that preliminary investigations point toward a failed kidnapping attempt.
She further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a full-scale investigation and an intensified manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators.
The murder has sparked significant concern among residents of Ekpoma regarding the rising state of insecurity in the region. Local authorities, in collaboration with military personnel, vigilante groups, and hunters, are reportedly conducting coordinated operations in the surrounding forests to track down the gang responsible for the cold-blooded killing.
