LP Pegs Presidential Form at ₦50m, Gives Otti Free Ticket

The Labour Party (LP) has fixed the cost of its presidential expression of interest and nomination forms at a combined ₦50 million ahead of the 2027 general elections, while granting a waiver to Abia State Governor Alex Otti.

The party disclosed this in its newly released timetable for the 2026 primaries, detailing activities leading up to the emergence of its candidates. According to the schedule, the ₦50 million fee comprises ₦10 million for the expression of interest form and ₦40 million for the nomination form.

LP said the decision to grant Otti a free nomination form was in recognition of his contributions to the party and his performance in office since assuming leadership in Abia State. In addition to the presidential category, the party outlined fees for other elective positions.

Governorship aspirants are to pay ₦25 million, senatorial hopefuls ₦10 million, House of Representatives aspirants ₦5 million, and State House of Assembly candidates ₦3 million. The party also announced concessions aimed at encouraging broader participation.

Women, youths aged between 25 and 30, and persons living with disabilities will only be required to pay for the expression of interest forms, with nomination forms waived for them. According to the timetable, the sale of forms is scheduled to run from May 6 to May 16, while submission will take place between May 17 and May 18. Screening of presidential aspirants is expected on May 22, with the presidential primary slated for May 29.

The announcement signals the start of the party’s internal electoral process as it prepares for the 2027 general elections, amid expectations of heightened political activity and competition across parties.
