Abaribe Resigns from ADC, Sparks Fresh Political Realignment

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who represents Abia South Senatorial District, has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a development that is already stirring conversations within Nigeria’s political space.

As of the time of filing this report, the reason for his resignation remains unclear. Neither Abaribe nor the leadership of the party has released a formal statement explaining the circumstances surrounding his exit.

However, the move is widely seen as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Abaribe’s resignation comes just months after he joined the ADC in late 2025, following his departure from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

His earlier defection had drawn attention at the time, as it was linked to internal disagreements within APGA and a broader push among opposition figures to form stronger alliances capable of challenging the ruling establishment.

A long-serving lawmaker, Abaribe has been a member of the Senate since 2007 and is widely regarded as a prominent voice within the opposition.

Over the years, he has built a reputation for his outspoken stance on national issues, as well as his strategic role in political negotiations and party movements.

Political analysts believe his latest resignation could be a signal of deeper shifts within opposition ranks, particularly as political actors begin early positioning for the next election cycle.

Some observers suggest the move may precede another defection or alignment with a different political bloc, although no confirmation has been made.
