Delta Police Arrest Three Suspects, Recover Six Firearms in Anti-Crime Operations
The Delta State Police Command has arrested three men in separate operations in Agbarho and Oghara, recovering six firearms, four live cartridges, 10 spent cartridges and other items suspected to be linked to criminal activities.
The arrests involved individuals suspected of cultism, armed robbery and other violent offences, according to the police spokesperson, ASP Bright Edafe.
Edafe disclosed that operatives of the Command Anti-Cultism Unit (CACU), Sector 3, Ovwian-Aladja, apprehended a 34-year-old suspect, Akpoghene Goodluck, along the Agbarho-Warri Expressway on November 4, 2026.
He said the suspect allegedly attempted to evade police operatives during a routine patrol, prompting his arrest.
A subsequent search of the premises where he was apprehended reportedly yielded two locally manufactured firearms and 10 spent cartridges.
The police spokesperson added that follow-up investigations led to the arrest of another suspect, 50-year-old Solomon Arhugberume James, at his residence, where officers recovered a pump-action firearm and a live cartridge.
According to Edafe, both men claimed to belong to the Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security outfit but were unable to provide identification documents to support their claims.
In a separate development, operatives of the Oghara Police Division arrested a 23-year-old man identified as Clinton Awuerowswo, popularly known as Clinbaby, on October 23, 2026, over alleged cult-related activities.
Edafe explained that the suspect had been evading arrest since firearms were discovered at his residence during a police operation on March 23, 2026.
Items recovered from the suspect included a Beretta pistol, two locally fabricated short-barrelled guns, three live cartridges, a battle axe and a jackknife.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that Awuerowswo admitted ownership of the recovered weapons and identified himself as a member of the Eiye confraternity.
Edafe confirmed that investigations into the separate incidents were ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Samuel Erale, cautioned residents against involvement in cult-related activities and the illegal possession of firearms.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal networks and maintaining security across the state.
E rale also called on residents to assist security agencies with credible information on suspicious activities, assuring members of the public that the identities of informants would be protected.
