Gunmen Kidnap Two Blind Persons In Plateau, Demand N50m Ransom

Suspected kidnappers have abducted two visually impaired persons in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State and are reportedly demanding a N50 million ransom for their release.

The victims were among nine persons travelling in a vehicle to attend a training programme in Benue State when their vehicle came under attack on Monday night around 8pm while returning to Jos.

Chairman of the Plateau State chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JONAPWD, Shindol Aaron, who confirmed the incident to PUNCH Online in Jos on Tuesday, said the group took off from Jos for the training.

He explained that on their way back, they encountered kidnappers in Riyom LGA, adding, “They were nine in the vehicle. Seven of them escaped, and two were abducted. So, right now, we have a male and a lady in their custody.”

Aaron said the delegation had been selected to attend the training but turned back after learning the programme had been postponed, only to be ambushed on the return journey.

Another member of the association, Ishaya Ayuba Danjatau, who also confirmed the abduction, said the kidnappers have reached out to demand N50m before they can free the two persons in their custody, lamenting the difficulty of raising such amount.

Efforts to get the reaction of the Plateau State Police Command spokesman, DSP Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
