OK Movement Faults NDC Over Campaign Council List, Questions Preparedness for 2027
The Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has criticised the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the composition of its National Campaign Council.
The group questioned the party’s readiness for the 2027 general elections and claimed it has a stronger grassroots structure.
Director-General of the OK Movement, John Ughulu, said the NDC waited too long to set up its campaign machinery. In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, he warned that political ambition without effective grassroots mobilisation and coordination would not guarantee electoral victory.
Ughulu argued that the movement had already done the necessary groundwork while others were only beginning to organise. He predicted that many of those appointed to the NDC council might eventually seek the movement’s support and mobilisation network.
The criticism comes amid growing tension between the NDC and the OK Movement over the latter’s organisational independence. The NDC on Sunday named Senator Seriake Dickson as chairman of its National Campaign Council, with Peter Obi as co-chairman, while Rabiu Kwankwaso was listed as co-vice-chairman. Ughulu and the movement’s coordinators were not included in the appointments.
Ughulu insisted that the OK Movement is an independent political organisation, not a conventional support group, and would not surrender its structures to the NDC. He maintained that elections are won through sustained grassroots mobilisation and strategic planning rather than prominent names on campaign councils.
