Adeleke Rejects Claims of Legislative Seat-Sharing Deal With APC Ahead of 2027

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has denied reports alleging that he reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative seats and local government positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor maintained that his political understanding with the Presidency was specifically aimed at supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and did not involve an arrangement to distribute elective positions in Osun State.

The clarification followed claims circulating online that Adeleke and the Presidency had agreed to allow the Accord Party and the Osun APC to share positions across local government councils, the Senate, the House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly.

In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor dismissed the allegations as false, insisting that no such agreement existed.

Adeleke explained that discussions concerning the ongoing local government crisis in Osun were intended to resolve the dispute and protect the interests of both APC chairpersons and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmen and councillors.

He expressed optimism that the crisis surrounding local government administration would be resolved before the end of the year, allowing grassroots governance to function effectively.

The governor further clarified that his support for Tinubu’s re-election did not mean he would abandon candidates of his own political platform in other elections.

According to him, he would campaign for Accord Party candidates contesting for seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly.

He urged political parties to concentrate on mobilising support for their candidates, stressing that voters would determine the outcome of the legislative contests.

The controversy comes as political actors across the country continue to negotiate alliances and strengthen their structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
