Lagos APC Targets Three Million Votes Each for Tinubu, Hamzat in 2027 Elections

The Director General of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council, Musiliu Obanikoro, says the party is targeting three million votes each for its presidential and governorship candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Obanikoro made the announcement on Sunday during a press briefing to unveil plans for the presentation of the manifesto of the party’s Lagos governorship candidate, Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat.

He said the manifesto would be unveiled on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Arts Theatre, in Iganmu, Lagos.

The event is scheduled to run from 3pm to 5pm and will be broadcast live on major television stations and digital platforms.

Obanikoro described Lagos as too important to be entrusted to an inexperienced leader, arguing that Hamzat’s background in public service and the private sector made him suitable to lead the state.

He said Lagos had recorded considerable development over the years but still faced challenges in healthcare, transportation and human capital development that required experienced leadership.

According to him, the state’s development trajectory began under President Bola Tinubu when he contested the governorship in 1999, adding that Hamzat would build on the foundation and achievements of successive APC administrations.

The campaign director general said the proposed manifesto was designed to promote continuity, inclusive development and improved living standards for residents.

He also stressed the need to ensure that Lagos remained welcoming to all residents while preserving the heritage and interests of its indigenous population, adding that differences should not prevent people from working towards common goals.

Obanikoro highlighted Hamzat’s academic and professional credentials, including a doctorate in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom and experience with international financial institutions Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley.

He further cited Hamzat’s service as deputy governor and his involvement in the current administration, saying the experience would help him sustain existing projects and address outstanding needs.

Obanikoro listed developments under the Sanwo-Olu administration, including the Blue and Red rail lines, road and bridge construction, improvements in schools and hospitals, housing projects, support for businesses and young people, and investment in the creative economy.

He said Hamzat would build on those achievements while seeking further improvements in infrastructure and public services.

The campaign director general added that the manifesto would be made available for public download, encouraging Lagos residents to submit feedback, comments and suggestions.
