Riders working with Nigerian food delivery company, Chowdeck earn an average of N100,000 weekly, with high-performing riders taking home considerably more, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Femi Aluko, has said.

Aluko disclosed this during an interview with Channels Television, where he discussed the earning opportunities available to riders on the platform.

He explained that riders’ income is largely tied to their delivery volume and the distance they cover, noting that payments are also calculated based on kilometres travelled.

“Chowdeck riders earn an average of N100,000 per week while staying fit. The best ones make much higher than that. It’s a game of numbers, the more delivery you do, the more you’re able to earn and cover distance and kilometres because they’re also paid by kilometres,” Aluko said.

The disclosure means a rider earning the stated weekly average could make roughly N400,000 in a four-week month.

Reacting to the figure, the interviewer noted that even bicycle riders on the platform could potentially earn about N400,000 monthly.

“So you’re telling me those boys riding those bicycles make N100K in a week. So in a month, N400K, riding bicycle,” the interviewer said.

Aluko agreed with the calculation but stressed that riders have operating expenses, including the cost of maintaining their bicycles.

“That’s correct, yeah. Again, it also comes with its own cost, like you have to maintain your bicycles,” he said.

His comments indicate that riders’ actual earnings can differ substantially, depending on how many orders they complete, the distances covered and the expenses incurred while working.
