The National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed the payment of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to members of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, as the presidential reward for their recent achievement.

The commission made the confirmation in a press release dated September 9, 2026, stating that the payment had been made to the team.

President Bola Tinubu had pledged the $100,000 reward to the players following D’Tigress’ outstanding performance, with the naira equivalent subsequently paid to the beneficiaries.

The NSC also released photographs showing members of D’Tigress holding what appeared to be their award documents during a presentation.

The payment fulfils the financial aspect of the presidential recognition of the team, which has continued to attract national attention for its achievements in women’s basketball.
