The Holy Infant Jesus Pilgrim Centre has restated its dedication to assisting vulnerable people in Abia State.

The organisation also appealed for backing from the state government and well-meaning citizens.

Its Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Ezeala Benny Nkechi-Ugo, spoke during a drive to raise money for a permanent headquarters and related facilities.

She said the centre supplies basic materials to those in need and goes into communities to teach moral lessons to young people and others.

The programmes target issues such as prostitution, drug abuse and cultism while promoting Christian values. The aim is to raise individuals who are not only supported with food and goods but also morally sound and able to contribute positively to society.

Mrs Nkechi-Ugo pointed to problems like moral decline, youth drug use, cultism, online fraud, gender-based violence, broken homes and lack of respect for elders. Future plans include character training for children and youths, parenting classes for women and widows, and counselling to discourage crime.

She called on government bodies, companies, donors and individuals to fund the first phase of the project, which involves acquiring land, creating a charity unit and building a training hall and headquarters. A representative of the Abia Governor’s Chief of Staff attended the event, praised the effort and promised continued government support.
