Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA successfully thwarted an attempted terrorist invasion of Tsalanbango village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State in the early hours of August 20, 2026. The clash left one civilian dead and two others wounded by gunfire.

The incident began around 12:13 a.m. when reports reached troops deployed at Ungwalelle that armed terrorists were moving to overrun the rural community. The soldiers, already positioned in the area as part of ongoing security operations in eastern Sokoto, immediately mobilized and raced toward the village.

Upon arriving, the troops made contact with the attackers and engaged them in a firefight. The military response was swift and decisive, forcing the terrorists to break off their assault, abandon the village, and withdraw into the surrounding bush and countryside.

Despite the successful repulsion of the invaders, one local resident was killed during the fighting. Two other civilians suffered gunshot wounds. The injured were quickly evacuated from the scene and taken to Yarbulutu Hospital, where they received medical attention.

The operation highlights the persistent threat posed by armed groups in Sabon Birni, a local government area that borders Niger Republic and has experienced repeated incursions. Troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA continue to conduct patrols and rapid-response missions to protect remote communities in the region.
