Nigerians Account for 21.2% of SuperSport’s FIFA World Cup Digital Users

Nigerian football fans accounted for 21.2 per cent of users on SuperSport’s digital FIFA World Cup 2026 experience, making the country the second-largest contributor to the broadcaster’s SuperSport Predictor platform.

SuperSport disclosed the figures in its post-tournament digital performance report released on Tuesday, with South Africa ranking first at 29.5 per cent of registered users.

The Predictor attracted 175,615 registered users who made 3.81 million predictions during the tournament, which was hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.

Spain won the competition after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final played in New Jersey.

According to SuperSport, the Predictor also recorded 257,299 game sessions and 160,749 completed challenges, representing an 83.1 per cent completion rate.

The broadcaster said its digital coverage generated significant engagement across Africa, recording 677 million video views from 817 videos published on YouTube and TikTok. The two platforms accounted for 84 per cent of the total video views.

SuperSport’s digital content also generated 54.4 million engagements and attracted a paid audience of 11.4 million during the tournament.

Its wider #EverythingCanWait campaign recorded 19.1 billion views across social media platforms, while the broadcaster’s Pan-African creator programme generated 18.1 million views and 8.8 million engagements.

Creator-produced content recorded an overall engagement rate of five per cent, according to the report.

SuperSport.com also recorded strong traffic during the tournament, attracting 10.1 million visitors and more than six million football video views. The website generated 417,591 referrals to DStv’s over-the-top streaming platform.

The broadcaster said its digital strategy was integrated with DStv Stream, whose dedicated FIFA World Cup hub recorded six million visits, while peak concurrent streams reached 933,000.

SuperSport also highlighted the role of localised content in attracting African audiences, reporting strong positive reactions to its multilingual commentary.

Pidgin commentary generated the highest volume of organic social media conversations among the broadcaster’s commentary offerings, underscoring the impact of local-language storytelling on fan engagement.
