DJ Cuppy Reveals Her Trick for Dodging Marriage Proposals

Nigerian disc jockey and entrepreneur DJ Cuppy has opened up about receiving marriage proposals on a daily basis, even as she continues to sidestep questions about settling down, tying her ever-growing academic pursuits to her way of dodging the topic altogether.

Speaking in a recent interview, the entertainer, born Florence Otedola, revealed that admirers approach her with proposals regularly, and not just from fans.

Despite the steady stream of interest, Cuppy made it clear that marriage remains far from her immediate priorities, joking that she has found a rather unconventional way of deflecting the pressure: collecting more degrees. She has already earned qualifications from New York University, the University of Oxford and King’s College London, with another currently in view.

Cuppy explained that her growing stack of certificates has become something of a running joke within her family, particularly with her grandmother, who frequently asks about her marital status. Whenever the question comes up, Cuppy says she simply shows her grandmother a new certificate in response, a light-hearted way of acknowledging the pressure without giving in to it.

Beyond the humour, the disc jockey used the conversation to reflect more broadly on her journey, touching on her career, her philanthropic work and the personal milestones that have shaped her public life.

She drew a clear distinction between charity and philanthropy, describing the former as simple giving and the latter as a deliberate effort to create lasting, long-term change.

The revelation adds to a string of recent public comments from Cuppy on the subject of marriage. She has previously brushed off questions about her love life with similar wit, at one point declaring she was “on my way to get another degree” in response to fans concerned about her relationship status. Her remarks come against the backdrop of her younger sister, Temi Ajibade, expecting her first child with musician Mr Eazi, a development that has kept public attention trained on Cuppy’s own romantic journey.

For now, though, the DJ appears content prioritising her personal and academic growth over any rush down the aisle.
