“We Are Not in Competition”: Peter Okoye’s Followers Surge Past a Million Amid P-Square Feud
Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has recorded a surge of over one million new followers alongside notable growth on YouTube, as fans continue to rally around him amid his ongoing public dispute with his brothers, Paul and Jude Okoye.
The wave of support follows weeks of escalating tension within the Okoye family, sparked by a multi-part video series Peter has been releasing on his Instagram page detailing the events behind P-Square’s repeated breakups.
In the videos, now running into several parts, Peter has accused his elder brother and former manager, Jude, of claiming ownership over P-Square, withholding financial records, delaying access to the group’s back catalogue, and mismanaging royalty payments.
He has also alleged that his brothers bullied and harassed him, and connived to divert millions of dollars belonging to him, allegations now tied to an ongoing EFCC investigation and court proceedings. Jude has denied the claims, dismissing them as fabrications and manipulative tactics.
As the family feud has played out publicly, social media users have increasingly thrown their weight behind Peter, with many launching campaigns aimed at boosting his music and online visibility. That groundswell of support appears to be translating into tangible numbers, with the singer’s accounts posting a jump of more than a million followers alongside a marked uptick in YouTube engagement.
The renewed momentum comes months after Peter had spoken about a slowdown in his social media growth, which he said once saw him gaining as much as 100,000 new followers daily before dropping off around the time of P-Square’s reunion. He had previously pushed back on comparisons between his numbers and those of other artists, insisting that he prioritises organic growth and genuine fan engagement over inflated statistics.
With the feud between the brothers still unresolved and matters pending in court, the latest surge suggests that public sentiment, at least for now, has swung firmly in Peter’s favour.
