The Kano State Hisbah Board has prohibited the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across all 44 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to uphold public morality and reinforce Islamic values.

The directive was announced on Thursday by the board’s Deputy Commander General, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, in a message circulated via WhatsApp.

Aminuddeen said the decision followed reports that some individuals engaged in the business were distributing pornographic films and other video content considered inconsistent with Islamic teachings and the cultural values upheld in Kano State.

To ensure compliance, he disclosed that Hisbah operatives have been deployed across the state to carry out routine patrols and enforcement activities. He warned that anyone found violating the directive would be prosecuted in line with the laws of Kano State.

He also advised those whose livelihoods may be affected by the ban to pursue other legitimate sources of income, stressing that the measure is intended to shield young people from harmful content and preserve societal values.

According to the Deputy Commander General, the increasing level of moral decline among young people has been linked to the widespread consumption of indecent films and videos.

The Kano State Hisbah Board, responsible for enforcing Sharia-related regulations in the state, has over the years introduced a number of policies restricting activities and materials it considers contrary to the state’s religious and cultural standards.
