Shettima Urges FG to Address Nigerians’ Concerns Over Economic Reforms

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on the Federal Government to pay closer attention to Nigerians’ concerns about its ongoing economic reforms, stressing the need for transparent communication, credible evidence of progress and policies that respond to citizens’ experiences.

Shettima made the appeal on Thursday at The Duke’s Masterclass 2026, held at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. He was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Economic Affairs, Dr Tope Fasua.

The Vice President said the effectiveness of the administration’s economic policies would depend not only on their implementation but also on the government’s ability to demonstrate tangible improvements in people’s lives and address the difficulties they face.

He emphasised that building public confidence required the government to communicate its decisions clearly, provide evidence of progress and remain responsive to the concerns of citizens.

Shettima’s remarks come amid continuing public discussions over the impact of Nigeria’s economic reforms, including concerns about living costs and the challenges confronting households and businesses.

He maintained that public trust was essential to sustaining the reform agenda, noting that citizens needed to understand the objectives of government policies and see practical results from their implementation.

The Vice President’s position underscores the importance of ensuring that economic policies are not judged solely by their implementation but also by their impact on the welfare and everyday experiences of Nigerians.
