FBI Hails EFCC Chairman Olukoyede For Role In Tackling Sextortion, Cybercrime
The Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC and its Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede for their support in tackling sextortion and cybercrimes targeting minors.
The commendation was conveyed in a letter signed by FBI Director Kash Patel addressed to Olukoyede. The EFCC disclosed this in a statement on its official X handle late Wednesday.
According to the statement, the EFCC played a vital role in Operation Artemis, a joint international effort to disrupt financially motivated sextortion networks that prey on minors.
Patel praised the commission for its collaboration with the Bureau in the arrest and extradition of suspects facing federal charges in the United States. He noted that under Olukoyede leadership, the EFCC designated personnel to support investigations and facilitate the transfer of suspects from Nigeria to the US to face prosecution.
Specifically, the FBI commended the EFCC for apprehending Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudashiru Afeez Olawale who were indicted in the United States in 2023 over allegations relating to the sexual exploitation and extortion of minors.
The two suspects were extradited to the United States in August 2026 following investigations and extradition proceedings facilitated by the EFCC. They are facing federal charges relating to sexual exploitation linked to the deaths of two teenage boys in the US who later died by suicide.
Patel said the successful outcome of the cases would not have been possible without the EFCC assistance and dedication to international law enforcement collaboration.
He thanked Olukoyede and the commission for their commitment to justice and said he looks forward to continued partnership with the EFCC in tackling transnational cybercrime.
