Lagos Commences 2027 Hajj Registration, Mandates Health Insurance, Sets ₦7m Initial Deposit

The Lagos State Government, through its Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, has officially opened the sale of application forms and registration for the 2027/1448 A.H. Hajj and Ramadan Umrah exercises.

To meet the tighter planning timelines set by Saudi Arabian authorities and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, the state has set a strict payment deadline of September 2026 to guarantee smooth logistics, visa processing, and airlift coordination.

Intending pilgrims are required to pay N20,000 for the Hajj form alongside an initial deposit of N7 million via bank draft.

For those registering for the Ramadan Umrah, the form costs N10,000 with an initial deposit of N5.7 million.

The state board has emphasized that these initial deposits are essential to secure slots, and the final fares will be adjusted once the national commission ratifies the official rates.

In a major policy shift to guarantee quality medical care during the trip, the state has also made enrollment in the Lagos State Health Management Agency’s “Ilera Eko” health insurance scheme mandatory for all participants. The health coverage registration requires fifteen thousand naira for individual plans and fifty-five thousand naira for family plans.

This measure ensures that every pilgrim has comprehensive health coverage before departure, during their spiritual exercise in Saudi Arabia, and upon their return.
