‘I Thought Police Recovered It’ — Rescued Oyo School Principal Explains Car Inquiries After 56 Days in Captivity

The principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has explained the context behind her asking about the whereabouts of her personal car immediately after being rescued from kidnappers.

Speaking at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan on Monday where she, alongside other rescued teachers and pupils, was formally received by Governor Seyi Makinde, Alamu clarified that she asked the question under the mistaken impression that the police had secured the vehicle during the rescue operation, only to later find out it had been entirely burnt by the abductors.

The clarification followed public reactions to her initial remarks upon gaining freedom after enduring 56 days in captivity. Recounting the horrors of their confinement, the principal detailed how the kidnappers subjected the captive children to severe physical abuse and forcibly tied their mouths to prevent them from crying out or making noise. Following their successful rescue, the victims were initially admitted to the Military Hospital in Ibadan to receive comprehensive medical evaluation and psychosocial therapy before being officially reunited with their families and handed over to the Oyo State Government.
