Death Toll from Venezuelan Earthquake Top 4,300

The death toll from last month’s twin earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 4,333, according to the country’s National Assembly President, Jorge Rodriguez.

Rodriguez announced the updated figure on Saturday, an increase from the 4,118 deaths reported a day earlier. He did not disclose the number of people still missing.

The devastating earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, struck on June 24, hitting the capital, Caracas, and the coastal state of La Guaira.

The disaster destroyed several high-rise residential buildings, reducing many structures to rubble and leaving thousands of residents without shelter.

According to Rodriguez, more than 19,000 displaced people are currently living in temporary camps established in stadiums, public squares and along sidewalks.

Emergency response efforts are ongoing, with local and international volunteers providing medical services through temporary clinics while also distributing food and other relief materials to affected communities.

Authorities continue rescue and humanitarian operations as thousands remain displaced by one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters in recent years.
