19 African Companies Receive $1.5 Million Grant for Solar-Powered Ventures

Nineteen companies from Nigeria, Kenya, and Ethiopia have been awarded a total of $1.5 million to expand their solar-powered businesses.

The grant, provided under the Productive Use Financing Facility managed by CLASP, aims to increase access to clean energy equipment for small enterprises. This support is expected to help entrepreneurs grow their operations while promoting sustainable development.

The funding will be used to deploy thousands of productive use appliances such as solar water pumps, refrigerators, and milling machines. These tools are designed to boost productivity in various sectors and create green jobs for local communities. Officials involved in the program believe it will bridge the gap between energy access and economic opportunity for many small businesses.

Previous phases of the initiative have already shown positive results, with earlier grants helping to sell numerous income-generating appliances across the continent.

The latest round builds on that success and is anticipated to benefit thousands of people directly. Partners like the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet are also contributing to the effort.

The program reflects a growing focus on renewable energy solutions that support both environmental goals and economic growth in Africa. By providing affordable financing for solar technologies, the initiative empowers entrepreneurs to expand their businesses in a cleaner and more sustainable way. Recipients are expected to make significant contributions to their local economies.

This investment in solar-powered businesses highlights the potential for clean energy to drive development across the continent. As more companies receive support, the impact on job creation and energy adoption is likely to increase. The grant program serves as an important step toward a more sustainable and prosperous future for small businesses in Africa.
