UNICAL Suspends 19 Students Over Alleged Examination Misconduct

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended 19 students for one academic session over alleged involvement in examination misconduct.

The disciplinary action followed the approval of recommendations submitted by the university’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.

The suspension was announced in a letter signed by the Director of Administration, Dr. Citizen Ekpo, on behalf of the Registrar, Dr. Chukwuka Icha.

Speaking on the development, the university’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Effiong Eyo, said the affected students would remain on suspension throughout the 2025/2026 academic session and would be allowed to resume their studies in the 2026/2027 academic session.

Eyo explained that the decision received the approval of the university senate after it considered the committee’s recommendations.

The students affected by the sanction are from several faculties, including Administration, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Arts, Education, Allied Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Environmental Sciences.

They also come from departments such as Nursing Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Science Laboratory Technology, Estate Management, Marketing and other related programmes.

The university has directed all deans, heads of departments and relevant administrative units to implement the suspension and ensure full compliance with the directive.
