Cross River Police Seize 25 Vehicles Over Number Plate Violations
The Cross River State Police Command have impounded 25 vehicles for violating regulations on vehicle registration plates as part of a nationwide enforcement exercise ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The operation, conducted across the Calabar metropolis on July 3, targeted vehicles operating without registration plates or displaying covered, altered, defaced, obscured or unauthorised dealer number plates.
The command’s spokesperson, Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the affected motorists had been subjected to the necessary administrative and legal procedures and were being prosecuted in line with existing laws.
According to Eitokpah, the enforcement exercise is intended to strengthen public safety, improve vehicle identification and prevent criminals from exploiting concealed or unregistered number plates to evade detection.
He said the command remains committed to intelligence-driven and community-focused policing, adding that the operation would continue across the state to ensure compliance with traffic and vehicle registration regulations.
The police also appealed to residents to cooperate with the ongoing exercise and urged members of the public to report suspicious persons and activities through the Force’s designated emergency channels.
