“I Asked God for Twins” — Ricardo Agbor’s Emotional 18-Year Journey to Fatherhood

Veteran Nollywood actor, Ricardo Agbor has opened up about his emotional 18-year journey to fatherhood, revealing that he and his wife endured nearly two decades of childlessness before finally welcoming twins, a boy and a girl.

Speaking in a recent interview with AfricanAList, Agbor reflected on his marriage, his faith, and some of the most defining moments of his personal life.

He shared that he chose to marry a woman from outside his tribe despite expectations that the tribal difference would breed tension, insisting instead that their union has been marked by peace and mutual understanding. On the long road to parenthood, the actor said he specifically prayed to God for twins, and though the answer did not come immediately, he refused to give up on his faith or his marriage throughout the wait.

He said many people around him questioned how much longer he could hold on, but he never once considered walking away from his relationship or losing hope that the prayer would eventually be answered.

After 18 years, Agbor said his prayers were finally answered with the birth of a boy and a girl, a moment he described as one of the happiest of his life. His twins are now teenagers, and he said every moment spent with them serves as a reminder that the long wait was worth it. He encouraged couples going through similar struggles with childlessness never to lose hope, noting that every family’s journey looks different.

The actor also used the interview to revisit what he called the most painful experience of his life, the death of his mother. He recounted that she had been undergoing treatment for about three weeks without improvement before doctors recommended she be flown to South Africa for further care. At her own request, she was first moved to another private hospital in Surulere, but she died in his arms as he helped her into the car for the transfer. Agbor said witnessing his mother’s death left him emotionally devastated, describing it as the first time he had ever cried outside of playing an emotional scene on screen, and calling it one of the most unforgettable moments of his life.
