Police Arrest Indian Hemp Seller Who Threatened Officers with Knife in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a woman who was seen in a viral video holding a knife and cursing police officers after she was allegedly detained over the sale of cannabis, commonly known as Indian hemp. The arrest was confirmed on Friday.

In the video, the middle-aged woman, dressed in a green gown, was seated inside a car as she hurled insults at the officers. She later stepped out of the vehicle, still holding a knife, and moved aggressively towards a young woman who appeared to be one of the officers recording the incident.

Speaking in Yoruba, the woman complained that the officers were troubling her and others involved in the sale of Indian hemp. She claimed they were not the only ones selling the substance and accused the police of repeatedly harassing them.

The incident was reported to have taken place in Ijebu Igbo, the headquarters of Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the suspect’s arrest and said the matter was under investigation.

The state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, also confirmed that the woman would be charged to court by the police on Friday. He said he had spoken with the Commissioner of Police and was informed that the case would proceed to court the same day.
