Tinubu’s Policies Responsible for My Mother’s Death, Alleges Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of being responsible for his mother’s death, linking her passing to the impact of the administration’s policies.

Amaechi made the allegation while speaking about the economic conditions in the country and the effects of government policies on Nigerians.

He said his mother, who died at the age of 89 in July 2026, was among those affected by the economic hardship he attributed to the Tinubu administration.

The former governor argued that the rising cost of living and other economic pressures had created difficulties for ordinary Nigerians, including elderly citizens.

Amaechi criticised the government’s policies and said their consequences should be assessed based on how they affect people’s daily lives.

His comments come amid his political opposition to Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, in which Amaechi is the running mate to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the ADC platform.

Amaechi has previously criticised the Tinubu administration over its economic policies and urged Nigerians to demand greater accountability from those in government.

The former minister’s mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Amaechi, died in July at the age of 89. President Tinubu had earlier expressed condolences to the Amaechi family following her death.

Amaechi’s latest remarks have added to the growing political exchanges between the opposition and the Tinubu administration as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
