Father’s Day: Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Celebrates Quiet Strength of Fatherhood

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate, has used the occasion of Father’s Day to pay warm tribute to fathers across the country, describing them as unsung heroes whose quiet sacrifices and steadfast love form the bedrock of families and communities.

In a message to mark the 2026 Father’s Day celebration observed on Sunday, the lawmaker joined several other Nigerian public figures in reflecting on the irreplaceable role that fathers play in the lives of their children and the broader society.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s tribute carries a particular personal resonance the senator has spoken openly on previous occasions about the profound influence of her late father, Jimoh Akpoti, a former member of the House of Representatives during Nigeria’s Third Republic, whose political legacy she has credited with shaping her own commitment to public service.

The senator’s message comes amid an already active weekend for her politically, having thrown herself into the Ekiti State governorship campaign trail in the days preceding the governorship election, before returning to the national conversation with her Father’s Day goodwill message. Akpoti-Uduaghan has in recent months maintained a visible and vocal public presence, weighing in on democratic participation, national unity, and the welfare of her Kogi Central constituents.

Her tribute also coincides with a wider wave of goodwill messages from Nigerian leaders marking the occasion. Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara similarly described fathers as the backbone of families in a message issued on Sunday, while tributes poured in from various quarters celebrating the selfless contributions of fathers who, despite the economic and social pressures bearing down on Nigerian households, continue to show up for their families every day.

Father’s Day, celebrated globally on the third Sunday of June, is set aside to honour the dedication and sacrifices of fathers and father figures. For Akpoti-Uduaghan a mother, senator, and public figure who has spoken movingly about her father’s legacy the occasion offered a moment to step beyond the legislative arena and speak to something more universal: the quiet, often unacknowledged strength of fatherhood.
