Abia Doctors Call Off Strike as Kidnapped Surgeon is Freed

There is relief in Abia State after a planned strike by doctors was suspended. The decision came because a kidnapped surgeon, whose disappearance had caused serious concern, finally regained his freedom.

This positive development stopped what would have been a major disruption to healthcare services in the area.

The surgeon, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was abducted by unknown gunmen days earlier. His kidnapping had sparked outrage among medical professionals, who threatened to withdraw their services to pressure authorities into action.

The planned strike was meant to force a faster and more serious response to the rising insecurity faced by doctors.

However, following the surgeon’s safe release, the doctors’ body quickly met and decided to call off the industrial action. They confirmed that the immediate threat had passed and that their colleague was now back with his family. This decision was welcomed by patients and hospital administrators who had been bracing for a shutdown of medical services.

The suspension of the strike means that hospitals and clinics in Abia will continue to operate normally. Patients who rely on daily medical care, including those in emergency situations, will not suffer any interruption. The doctors made it clear that while they remain concerned about security, they are grateful that this particular case ended without bloodshed.

This incident has once again raised questions about the safety of healthcare workers in Nigeria. Many are now calling on the government to do more to protect medical staff from criminals. For now, though, the people of Abia can breathe a sigh of relief as their doctors return to work and a kidnapped colleague is finally safe at home.
