17 Police Officers Killed in Yobe Terrorist Attack on Army Special Forces School
A coordinated terrorist attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi has claimed the lives of 17 police officers who were undergoing specialised operational training at the facility, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed on Saturday.
The assault occurred in the early hours of 8th May 2026, when attackers struck from multiple directions at approximately 01:15hrs.
Several Nigerian Army personnel also lost their lives while repelling the assault, according to an official statement.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, described the fallen officers as courageous and patriotic personnel who were participating in advanced counter-terrorism and tactical training programmes.
The Commissioner of Police for Yobe State Command, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, visited the institution on behalf of the IGP to commiserate with the school’s Commandant, Brigadier General A.C. Enuagu, and surviving trainees.
The IGP assured Nigerians that the Police Force, in collaboration with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, will sustain efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice.
