Kwankwaso Pledges Support for Any 2027 Presidential Candidate Chosen by NDC Coalition

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has expressed a strong commitment to opposition unity by declaring his willingness to work with any presidential candidate produced by the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) for the 2027 elections.

In a statement made Kwankwaso emphasized that the primary goal of the emerging coalition is to rescue Nigeria from its current economic and security challenges.

He noted that personal ambitions must be secondary to the collective interest of the nation, signaling a major shift toward a consolidated opposition front.

The former Governor of Kano State clarified that the NDC, which comprises several major opposition parties including the PDP, NNPP, and Labor Party, is focused on creating a viable alternative to the ruling APC. By stating he would support any candidate emerged from the group, Kwankwaso aimed to dispel rumors of an internal leadership tussle that could derail the alliance’s formation.

While Kwankwaso remains a heavyweight in the coalition, his announcement is seen as a strategic move to foster trust among other opposition leaders, such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar. He reiterated that the alliance is not merely about winning an election but about instituting systemic reforms and a governance model that prioritizes the welfare of the Nigerian people.

Political analysts suggest that Kwankwaso’s “team-player” stance could be the catalyst needed to finalize the merger. However, the true test remains how the coalition will navigate the zoning of offices and the eventual selection process for a consensus candidate without alienating the different regional blocs represented within the NDC.
