Lagos APC Advisory Council Endorses Hamzat for 2027 Governorship
The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) has endorsed Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The decision was announced on Tuesday following a council meeting at Lagos House, Marina, according to a statement shared by Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media.
Gawat said the endorsement was made unanimously by members of the council and communicated by GAC leader Tajudeen Olusi.
He added that council members also paid for Hamzat’s nomination form, signalling strong internal backing within the ruling All Progressives Congress in Lagos State.
The development comes shortly after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu publicly endorsed his deputy as his preferred successor.
Sanwo-Olu made the declaration following a meeting with party leaders and members of the State Executive Council, where Hamzat formally announced his intention to contest the governorship seat.
The governor described Hamzat as experienced and capable, citing his performance in office and long-standing working relationship.
The latest endorsement by the GAC is expected to strengthen Hamzat’s position within the party as preparations gradually begin ahead of the 2027 general elections.
