Ibadan Indigenes Rebuke Fayose Over Alleged Plot to Depose Olubadan

The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes has condemned former Ekiti Governor, Ayodele Fayose for alleging a plot to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
The council labeled Fayose’s comments as reckless, provocative, and a dangerous attempt to politicize Ibadan’s traditional institutions.
The controversy started when Fayose claimed on social media that Governor Seyi Makinde planned to depose the monarch. Fayose alleged the state government intended to issue a query to the Olubadan for his absence at a recent coronation ceremony for High Chiefs.
The CCII dismissed these claims as entirely unfounded and capable of inciting unrest within the state capital. They emphasized that the Olubadan stool is governed by sacred traditions and processes that remain strictly insulated from external political interference or speculation.
Chief Ajeniyi Ajewole warned Fayose to stop meddling in Ibadan’s internal affairs, stating that the city would not tolerate “outsiders” destabilizing its peace. The council urged the public to disregard the rumors and maintain confidence in the strength of their traditional leadership.
The Oyo State Government also denied the report, with the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, calling it a “blatant lie.” Officials clarified that there has never been any intention to query the monarch, describing the rumor as a calculated political falsehood.
Other regional stakeholders, including Bisi Olopoeyan, called on South-West leaders to caution Fayose against making such frivolous utterances. Olopoeyan expressed concern that these baseless claims could cause regional chaos and advised the former governor to maintain statesmanlike decorum.
Finally, the Olubadan’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, confirmed there is no rift between Governor Makinde and Oba Ladoja. He described the allegations as unfortunate and reassured the public that the relationship between the palace and the state government remains cordial and focused on development.
